Call the whaaaamulance because I'm going to whine. Things have gone from bad to worse in regards to my root canal. First, I had to go back Friday to have the filling part ground down a tiny bit because my bite was uneven. Then, as the weekend progressed, it began to hurt more and more. On Sunday, regular pain meds weren't helping. Fortunately, I live less than a block from my regular dentist so I contacted him. He gave me a few pain pills to get me by until I could reach my endodontist. I was given a prescrip for 2 days worth of pain pills and told to basically deal with it unless my jaw begins to swell. Needless to say, I have not been a happy bunny.
Let this be a lesson to all you youngsters out there--take good care of your teeth or else you'll wind up like this when you're my age. This is NOT a pleasant experience. I'm trying to decide which hurts more, labor or root canal pain. Hmmmm, I've not made my conclusion yet.
I had braces for 5 years when I was younger. When the brackets came off of my 12 year molars my Mom (my dentist/boss) warned that eventually I would need root canals on 2 of them. She filled them and it lasted 10+ years. I did have to have 2 root canals this past summer. I can atest that they are NO fun. Hang in there though!
ReplyDeleteMy recc. (I am not a Doctor) is steriod (medrol) pack. It worked for me like a charm. I had pain for weeks after my procedures. You may also make sure that your tooth does not have a fracture in it. Your endodontist can check this if their practice has a microscope. We do see that a lot that they teeth still hurt b/c it has a hair line fracture. Ie... my Dad last year! Just some thoughs.
I work in my Mom's Dental Practice and we see this A LOT!!!
Hope you get it figured out. Tooth pain is the pits! You can see pics of my before and after of my first root canel here, http://southstevensonstreet.blogspot.com/2008/06/happy-birthday-to-me.html. My endodontist is my Mom's friend so them emailed me the xrays. Kinda fun!
